The always-bustling Wardour Street is home to Tamarind Kitchen, the sister restaurant to Tamarind Mayfair, known for its fine Indian dining. For this latest site, Russell Sage Studio purposely played with the peoples’ notion of a clichéd Indian restaurant, but instead created a subtly exciting, contemporary space. The studio achieved this by focusing on unexpected visual stimulation, such as the rich colours reminiscent of the ages of Indian Mughals, sumptuous, patterned upholstery and wall carvings. Projected light that might be reflected from architectural windows is cast around the walls, laying colour on colour, which makes this a thrilling space to experience.
